Character Education at JLS

JLS has charted a new course in educating the whole child. The core academic subjects continue to be taught and held to a high standard, but our administration and staff have concluded that Character Education is an important component of a child’s education and overall developmentThis education comes first from home, but school also plays an important part in this aspect of education.

Throughout the year, a character education video will be shown once a month over KJLS during the WIP periods. (Wednesday from 1:05 – 1:45) The character education program is a locally produced show with JLS staff and students participating. Various teachers and students will be interviewed expressing their views on the specific topic for that month..

The Character Education programs are:

September – New Beginnings
October – Honesty – with an emphasis on academic honesty
November 7 and 11 – Stand By Me - The Let’s Get Real video dealing with harassment and bullying
January 16 – Responsibility
February – 20 – Justice
March – May – To be determined

Why should the education of a young mind include character? Think about the following quote:

"Watch our thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny."
